Kansas City Stars Give SE Texas Mavericks Early Christmas Present
December 17, 2009
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-The KC STARS have made an effort to be a giving organization within the community. The STARS have given food to the Harvesters Food Network, donated ticket proceeds to the American Cancer Society and contributed time to help children become better readers. In the spirit of giving, the STARS gave the ABA's number one ranked Southeast Texas Mavericks their first loss of the season 112-94.
Both teams took the court Wednesday night with undefeated records, Mavericks 5-0 and STARS 3-0. STARS' Small Forward Dale Lamberth ignited the offense in the first half with 14 points. The STARS led at halftime 57-52. Interior defense provided by forwards Nick Burton and Dale Lamberth allowed the STARS to outscore the Mavericks 32-20 in the third quarter. Burton electrified the crowd with a monster dunk provided by a steal from STARS' guard Adam Hepker. Shooting Guard Nate Johnson sealed the fate of the Mavericks by contributing a game high 24 points off the bench. "We wanted to prove that we were one of the top teams in the league," stated Head Coach Rodney Perry.
"That was a great game and I really enjoyed myself," stated NBA and Kansas City Kings legend, Joe C. Meriweather. The STARS next home games will be on Tuesday December 29 and Wednesday December 30. Both games are set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on the CTU-Kansas City Floor at Municipal Auditorium.
In an effort to participate with the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer, the Kansas City Stars organization is donating $5 to the American Cancer Society for each $15, $20, or $25 ticket sold via TicketMaster.com, when the purchaser enters the Promo Code: ACSCURE. The $10 price level tickets are excluded from $5 donation. This promotion will continue through the rest of the Kansas City Stars 2009-2010 season.
