KC Stars First Scrimmage, Chance To Evaluate Team Play
November 5, 2009
On Wednesday November 4th, 2009 the KC Stars took to the court for the first time this pre-season against the men's basketball team of Labette Community College in Parsons, Kansas. The matchup was setup as a scrimmage consisting of three 20 minute halves. Both coaches worked on regular game play and specific game situations. The final score left the KC Stars on top with 98 points against the Cardinals 42.
Head Coach Rodney Perry and the team came into the scrimmage hoping to get a better idea of how prepared they were for actual games compared to practice. Main areas of focus were: testing out different lineups, communication on the defensive and offensive ends, and execution of set plays.
"They shot the ball well; I was pleased with rebounding and defense. Everybody played, so it was more of an evaluation for all players," said Head Coach Rodney Perry. "Though our execution is not exactly where we would like it to be."
Coach Rodney Perry's relationship with the Head Coach of the Labette Cardinals Men's basketball team, Armando Johnson, allowed the scrimmage to be arranged. The two coaches met three years ago when Rodney Perry was a coach at Western Illinois University recruiting the junior college ranks. The scrimmage granted both coaches the opportunity to evaluate the current state of their teams.
The KC Stars next preseason game will be against the ABA's Chicago Steam November 15th. Tickets are now available through Ticketmaster.com for the Stars regular season home opener November 27th, 7 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium.
