The Kansas City STARS’ owners, David Francis, Christopher Brown and William Palmer, held their promise of involving the community, education and business partnerships. Kansas City’s newest ABA basketball team, the STARS, honored Mayor Mark Funkhouser, President Tim Gramling of Colorado Technical University (CTU) Kansas City and Vice-President Chris Christian of the Kansas City Star newspaper with official STARS team jerseys. More importantly, the relationship that has been built between the STARS and these three entities has shown sustainability. The STARS will be visible. William Palmer, Chief Operating Officer, reiterated this high level of commitment to Kansas City at Wednesday’s press conference at the 810Zone.

Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser accepted a team jersey on behalf of the City. The City has played an integral part in the success of the STARS franchise. Home games played at the CTU Kansas City Floor at Municipal Auditorium not only adds an entertainment option but positively impacts the metropolitan area and the downtown Power & Light District.

Tim Gramling, President of CTU Kansas City, shared the university’s plan to collaborate with the STARS and the community to improve educational opportunities for the metropolitan area’s young people. CTU Kansas City will be working with several local high schools to assist teachers with the latest learning techniques and provide educational guidance to students. CTU Kansas City offers industry-current business, criminal justice and healthcare degree programs. The court at Municipal Auditorium will be referred to as the CTU Kansas City Floor.
v Chris Christian, Vice-President Audience/Circulation of the Kansas City Star newspaper received a jersey with “KC STAR” etched on the back. The name STARS was selected because of the newspaper’s historic relationship with the metropolitan community. Since 1880, the newspaper has been our area’s preeminent communications company because of a commitment to one ideal: Building our community through knowledge. “We feel that the success of any business thrives off of true commitment to the community, education and business,” stated Christopher Brown, President and part owner of the STARS.
