Initial Try-Outs a Success, ABA Still Looks for Talent
July 11, 2009
As David Francis, Kansas City ABA CEO, paced the gym floor at 68’s Inside Sports he shouted out “The initial try-out camp was successful but I am not satisfied, I want the best players around!” More than twenty players from the Kansas City area and the Midwest came to fulfill their dreams by showing their skills at the first try-out camp sponsored by Kansas City’s new ABA basketball team. The try-out camp was held on Saturday July 11, 2009 at Will Shield’s 68 Inside Sports in Overland Park, Kansas. Players were first evaluated through a battery of general basketball skills. The players faced the ultimate test of playing a game against each other to showcase their knowledge of the game and offensive and defensive skills. “I was pleased to the hustle and heart the guys showed today, a lot of coaching is still required,” stated Assistant Coach Dennis Still.
The team’s General Manager Reggie Harris pointed out that the first try-out camp yielded a few blue chip players. Harris elaborated, “We owe Kansas City the best and we will put the best talent on the floor.” Harris said that there will be a second round of try-outs to be announced later this week.
