The Star Program
An interdisciplinary group of staff at Kansas City Stars have designed an innovative intervention program to improve the academic and cultural integration, community development for students of Kansas City School District. This program involves early identification of student involvement, mentoring of these students by college interns, and providing opportunities for student participation in research in the community. Additionally, sports activities, study hall, social issues discussion and off-campus site visits led by established educators, college students, and mentors who can serve as role models for the students will occur. The goal of these activities is to improve the academic performance of students. Also to provide social support they need to be successful at the elementary, middle, and high school level. Furthermore to encourage them to pursue college studies in their field of interest. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase academic achievement, student attendance, and increase graduation rates. This can be done through communication, arts and math skills.
The Star Program is established to help students be successful academically and athletically. Our tutorial program focuses on assisting elementary and high school students in the classrooms and in the sports field. One of our goals is to help these students pass state standardized tests and move on to the next level whether it be academically or athletically.
